Saksun, Streymoy Island, Faroe Islands, June 2014 - Saksun village, located near the Northwest coast of Streymoy island, lies in the bottom of what used to be an inlet of the sea, surrounded by high mountains. The inlet formed a deep natural harbour, until a storm blocked the inlet with sand. This made the old harbour become an unaccessible seawater lagoon (only accessible by small boats on high tide). You can visit the museum which occupies a seventeenth century farm house called Dúvugarður. Or, you can take in the traditional turf covered houses, and at low tide, you can walk through the inlet and reach the ocean to fish, or to enjoy the scenery.
