Mexican free-tailed bats feed on a few species of stink bugs. These are common pests of nut and fruit trees, cotton, soybean and other crops. The green stink bug is a key food for the bats. Each evening bats emerge from Bracken Cave and fly as high as 10,000 feet to meet swarms of moths that travel on upper winds. Each bat will consume about one half to three-fourths of it's body weight before morning.
